Meet your hosts

Your hosts, Rob and Kathy Mitchell are a family of 3rd generation traders, who still run their original trading posts along the Southern Lesotho Border. Pop into their shop and fill up with all your basic supplies.

The Village

Alwynskop has its own personal charm. It was the original capital of Quthing district and served as the main wagon post fortravellers traversing between The Eastern Cape and Lesotho. Rich with cultural history of local Basutho’s, Baphuti’s, Kings,Chiefs, British and Boer influences as well as European missionaries and more recently 3rd and 4th generation white traders.

Reviews

“Peaceful and quiet. Safe and secure. Highly recommended.”

Kathy and her husband, Rob, are very welcoming and helpful. This is a great location for visiting the dinosaur footprints in Quching and exploring and walking in the surrounding hills. It is a beautiful area. The spacious apartment is very clean, comfortable. and nicely decorated. All the comforts of home with a well equipped kitchen, bathtub, very comfortable bed, and plenty of heaters for keeping warm in the winter. Nice patio, barbecue, and swimming pool for the warmer months. Peaceful and quiet. Safe and secure. Highly recommended.

“Highly recommended to stay here!”

The cottage is even more beautiful than can be seen in the photos! Very spacious, neat, very clean, cozy and very complete. Comfortable bed, nice shower, kitchen with everything you need. There are two bedrooms, each with its own luxurious bathroom. Heaters and heated blankets are there. There is a large terrace with a very nice garden, and a swimming pool. The cottage is located in the village, but slightly off the road and therefore very quiet and private. Safe parking. Very close by is a supermarket with a reasonable range and the stalls on the street also sell vegetables, fruit and food. Kathy and her staff are very nice and hospitable and are happy to give tips about the area and Lesotho in general. There are more cottages on the site that they rent out, so you can stay here with more people (probably 10). Highly recommended to stay here!
